PS: updated for SunBlogNuke v4.2.5 with Tom’s great help.
In order to write a new post, just follow the steps below:
1) Log in with credentials to write to the blog.
2) From your blog’s main page, look for "Create New Entry" or "Admin Panel" link within the Meta group.
3) Click 'Create New Entry' and go to step 5 below, or click 'Admin Panel' to enter the administrative panel, where you fill all the options for managing the blog as follows:
4) To create your first post you should click the [Add New Entry] link.
5) Enter the Title of your blog post in the Title box. Below that is the Rich Text Editor, where you can type and format your post content.
6) Below the Rich Editor is a box labeled “Tags”. You can add tags to your post by typing them in here, or you can select existing tags by clicking the “Toggle tags container” label to the right of the box. This will display a list of existing tags in your blog. Clicking on them will automatically add them into the tag entry box. All of the tags you enter will appear in the “Tag Cloud” for your blog, as shown here:
7) Below the Tags box is a Category box, where you can select Categories that you want this blog to belong to. Categories you have already assigned to posts in your blog will appear with check marks next to them. You can create new Categories by typing them into the box below the Categories list and clicking the Add button, as shown here:
8) Below the Categories section is a box labeled "Excerpt", where you can fill in excerpt for the post. Excerpts are posts summaries that are shown on your blog homepage only but won’t appear on the post itself in default. If you choose to not supply one, a short summary will be generated from your post. The excerpt box supports rich text so that you are able to supply excerpt with a thumbnail as post image around the plain text (Even if we recommend that you have better implement the thumbnail with custom fields feature, which will be mentioned in the step 10 and please refer to the tutorial [Extend DNN Blog With Custom Fields]). Note that the option "Full show in entry list", mentioned in the following step 9), will show entire post to be fully displayed on the blog’s home page no mater whether you have filled in the excerpt here.
9) Below the Excerpt section is a box labeled "Post Options", shown here:
You can configure those options like you want:
- The "Pinned" option forces the post to the top of the list and let the reader clearly know it important. It will put [Pinned] in front of the post name (e.g., if the post name was My Vacation, the pinned name would be [Pinned] My Vacation.)
- "Display on home page" should be unchecked if you don’t want the post displayed in the list of posts. Note that it shows in other view mode like category or tag view.
- "Full show in entry list" causes the entire post to be fully displayed on the blog’s home page, rather than just a summary with a link to the full post. That is a reserved option for the classic blog view.
- "Allow comments" enables readers to write comments to the post. It will overwrite the blog settings. This is useful if, for some posts, you do not want to allow comments in the beginning or close comments after a few days.
- "Full show in RSSFeed" causes the full post to be displayed in the RSS Feed for your blog, rather than just a summary with a link to the full post.
- "Syndicate on main feed" should be unchecked if you would like to make this post excluded in the main feed.
- "Featured" marks the post with flag so that you can render those featured posts in the Content Slider Widget, which may be placed in the home page of your website.
- "Publish at" allows you to set a specific date in the future when the post will automatically be published.
- The "Author" lets you select the person to be shown as the author of the post. This is useful if you have a blog with multiple authors.
10) Below the Post Options is a "Custom Fields" box. This is used for creating custom fields that can appear in your blog. Please refer to the tutorial - Extend DNN Blog With Custom Fields.
11) Below that is a Search Engine Optimization box, where you can fill in the slug (Original Named as 'EntryName'), which is an alternative post title for SEO consideration to build a friendly url. For example, if you want to make the original title("How to install and configure SunBlog Module?") more concise("install and configure SunBlog"). Please refer to the tutorial - Build Friendly Post Url. Additionally, you can specify Meta Keywords and Meta Description for your post. If you configure them well, the crawls and Search Engine will catch your content quickly.
Now you can complete your task for your current new post with three operations: Save as draft, Save & publish, and Cancel.
- Save as draft: this will save the post but not publish it to your blog, so you can come back and work on it again before publishing.
- Save & publish: this will save the post and publish it to you blog, so your readers can now read it.
- Cancel: this will exit this screen without saving any changes you’ve made since you last saved it.
